Life and Legacy of Usher William (Bay) Mack….
William "Bay" Mack was born December 18, 1939 in Canton, Mississippi to the union of his Parents: Henry and Ethel Mack. The Mack family moved to Gary, Indiana in the 1940’s where William attended Froebel School. At, the age of 10 he witnessed his Father being struck by a hit and run driver, who has never been identified.
William moved to Michigan City, Indiana where he attended and graduated from Elston High School. After graduation he married his high school sweetheart Queen Esther Haynes in 1960. From their union 5 beautiful children were born, Michael, Jacqueline, Christopher, Scott, and Kenneth.
Throughout the years, he worked hard at a few jobs, Allis Chalmers, Joy Manufacturing, and American Home foods. He however spent most of his working life within the Department of Corrections. He held various positions of Seargent at ISP and held many other positions in the Youth Detention Center and at the Summit Farm. Bay enjoyed fishing and playing cards with Queen Esthers Brothers and Cousins; Billie Haynes, Alfonzo Robinson, and Hosea Lynch, to name a few. He was the organizer and host for legendary family gatherings at 432 Walker Street. Bay has always supported his children at the Elston basketball games for decades! Later in life he became an Usher at Redeemed Fellowship Church, led by Pastor David Ashley. In his position as lead Usher, he brought that old school professionalism to the position. Always decent and in order. He really did love the church and the people inside the building. His Brother Bennie Mack held many family bible studies together in their homes that were very successful and Bay attended.
