Mary V. Johnson

Mary V. Johnson was born on July 17,1941 to Oscar and Bernice Batts, in Wolf Island Missouri. She lived a life defined by faith and a deep love for her family.,

A devoted mother, Mary, was blessed with 1 son and 5 daughters, who were the pride and joy of her life. She cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mary faithfully served at Community Baptist Church of Union Pier, Michigan as an Usher and a Sunday School Teacher. These roles she carried out with love, dedication and commitment. Mary dedicated more than 20 years of service as a CNA at a Nursing home, where she cared for residents with compassion and dignity. Her nurturing spirit made a lasting impact on many lives. Mary found great happiness in simple pleasures-especially tending to her yard, plants and flowers. She had a special gift for making things grow. She really enjoyed her birthday celebrations, when family and friends would gather to honor her. Those occasions brought her joy and created cherished memories for everyone who attended.

Mary V. Johnson, 84, peacefully departed this life at home on February 11, 2026 surrounded by love. She was preceded in death by her Parents; 2 Sisters: Earlene Douglas, and Ethel Hamilton; 2 Brothers: Richard Charles and Oscar Jr; and 2 Grandsons: Kristopher Johnson and Jordan Scott.

Mary leaves to cherish a lifetime of memories, her Children: Dewayne (Valeria) Johnson of Michigan City, IN; Debra (Michael) Fountain of Hartford, CT; Darnita Johnson, of Greensboro, NC; Darlene Johnson of Michigan City, IN; Denise Scott of Pottstown, PA; and Daralice Williams of Michigan City, IN; 1 Brother: Theodis “Pete” Batts,18 Grandchildren, a host of Great- Grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.

Mary’s love, laughter, presence, and smile will be sorely missed by all that knew her. She will greatly be missed, yet her memories will live on forever in our hearts.

A Memorial Celebration of life will be held Saturday, February 21, 2026 at 12noon at RENEW MC 7922 Pahs Rd. Michigan City, Indiana 46360 with Rev. John McGee will be Eulogist.

Family will meet and greet friends from 11until time of service at noon.
