Hamp Jones III of Michigan City, Indiana was the second child born to Joyce Ann and Hamp Jones Jr. on June 15, 1969, in Chicago, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Angela; his father-in-law, Jimmie Haynes, and his stepfather, Kenneth Mackey.
Hamp received his early education through the Chicago Public Schools system. He later attended DePaul University where he met Loneia (nee Allen) who would become his wife. They were married for 30 years, and were blessed with their son, De’Juan, and daughter, Nikiya, who were the sunshine of his life.
Hamp’s employment history spanned three industries: auto auctioning and remarketing as well as steel, and rail service fields. His fascination with cars began long before his professional experience with cars. As a young man, before he reached a legal age to drive, he was once helping his aunt at an art fair. Being thoughtful as ever, surprisingly, without her knowledge, he moved her car closer in the parking lot to “save her from having to walk a long distance when loading it.”
Hamp was known for his strength, compassion and loving nature. He had many talents and interests. His love for family was high on his list. He had an unforgettable sense of humor that brought laughter to those around him. He will surely be remembered for his passion for fishing and his affection for baseball, both influenced by his late father and his uncle Robert.
On Saturday, January 3, 2026, God called our Hamp to his eternal home. He leaves a legacy of cherished memories for his wife, Loneia; son, De’Juan; daughter, Nikiya (Kenneth); sister, Sandy; mother-in-law, Linda Allen; grandsons: Adrian and Andres; stepsisters: Launita, Nicole, and Syreeta; aunts: Gwendolyn (David) McNeal, Beverly Duncan, Lula Ingram and Martha Barnes; uncle, LC Coates; stepmother, Beverly Jones; nieces: Ashjia, Juanicia, Dominique and Diamond; fishing buddy, Bryan Johnson; and a number of nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Celebration of Life will take place at 2:00pm on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Coleman & Hicks Chapel, 101 S.Karwick Rd., Michigan City, Indiana. Visitation will take place at 1:00pm until the time of service at the chapel.
